How to Write a Narrative
Click on the two links below to explore HOW to write a narrative. Having examined the resource, use loose sheet paper to write your own narrative about:
"A time when my experience taught me lessons in life"
Follow the steps in the resources to write your own narrative.
Note: This is your ONLY EXTENDED piece of writing, so it needs to be good. Create a 3-4 paragraph narrative around the prompt above. Parts of your narrative writing will be used to help with putting your narrative slide show together towards the end of this week.
Here is the link where you will get some ideas and a plan to write about.

SUMMER SCHOOL SMART GOALS 2019
Click on this link to take you to our summer school Padlet page. When you get there, you must:
1. double click on the canvas and write out your REVISED SMART goal
2. upload an image that demonstrates your mindset in reaching this goal (e.g a lion that represents STRENGTH, a football that represents GOAL etc). Be creative
Now that you have written your SMART goal, please revisit the Padlet page above. Read and briefly note-take on at least two of your classmates postings.
Based on your notes, choose ONE classmate's post to comment on in this blog.
To comment on a blog,
Scroll to the bottom of your page where you see the dialog box that says "Comment"
Write your first and last names in the box BEFORE you begin to comment
Begin to write (in standard English, free of basic errors) about your classmate's post. Name the classmate, summarize what the person has written, and THEN RESPECTFULLY react to it (what you like about the person's post, why you have chosen to respond to this PARTICULAR post, what are the strengths of the post or why it resonates with you, and finally any suggestions you might have for the person to improve his/her post). Your suggestion MUST be something constructive that would help the person; for example, you may say "While your SMART goal has most of the qualities of a SMART goal, you could have included the conditions under which your SMART goal will be achieved, because this is vague to your reader."
Remember to take a look at the Blog rubric BEFORE you begin so that you can be reminded on how your blog will be assessed for this activity!

Logical Fallacy in Rhetorical Analysis-Exploring and responding to resources
As we build on our exposure to the unit on Rhetorical Analysis, the concept of a Logical Fallacy is important. Examine the following resources. You may use your note-catcher to capture "Big Ideas" on the topic/concept as you prepare for your original blog posting.
Task:
1. In your understanding, how might you define a Logical Fallacy?
2. Are Logical Fallacies important or relevant in your understanding of an argument?
3. Which resource makes this concept clearest for you? Why?
4. How might you provide your own everyday example of a Logical Fallacy?
Remember to edit your blog posting to correct common errors in writing. Also, do not forget to identify your post for peer editing and peer assessment purposes. Nonetheless, remember to hit "anonymous" in the posting option.
Here are the resources on Logical Fallacy:

Resource #2
Any other resource found on the topic? Include it or share the resource with the class.

Rhetorical Appeals in Language
Topic: Rhetorical Appeals in Language
Essential Question/Focus: How might we examine an author's use of rhetorical appeals in developing Big Ideas in a resource?
As we build on an author's use of Rhetorical Appeals to convince an audience, consider the resources below. Use the note-catching/note-making tools (Four Square note catcher or Cornell Note document) to capture Big Ideas as you explore the resources to build knowledge.
Consider CHOOSING ONE of the texts as your main focus:
How might you summarize the BIG IDEAS?
What rhetorical appeals does the author utilize?
To what extent are the appeals useful or effective in developing the BIG IDEAS?
Is the author's credibility enhanced through the use of the rhetorical appeals you outlined/discussed above?
Resources:
Is Too Much Technology Bad for Students?
How Your Smartphone Affects your Brain and Body
Your Task:
Having created your original blog based on the resource you have chosen, edit your blog to ensure that it is free of basic errors. In preparation for your blog to be assessed, please review our blog rubric to make adjustments to your work.
Please do not forget to post anonymously, but kindly identify yourself for peer assessment.

Period 6 Reflection on Marking Period 2
CLICK on the following link BELOW to get to your class's Padlet page. Read the writing directions for the padlet to see how you must respond.
1. After you have completed your written response on the padlet, you must read at least 2-3 students' reflective thoughts.
2. You must return to this blog page to post your thoughts on ONE student's padlet post. You should use the guidelines below to fashion your response to your peer. Your response would be graded using the Blog rubric.
a. Whose reflection strikes you as most thoughtful or reflective such that you were able to connect to parts or all of the person's thoughts?
b. Quote at least 2-3 specific lines/ideas of the person's reflection that made you like the padlet post.
c. What connections can you make between what the person (you have chosen) wrote and your own ideas? That is, what comparisons do you see between the person's post and your own reflection or goals? Did they motivate or re-motivate you to reach your own goals?
d. Is there anything you would change differently about how you have been thinking about your own goals? If so, what and why?
Please remember to write your name in the blog post before you respond. Also, please hit "anonymous" to send your post so as to avoid the post being lost and no grade being assigned.
