ReplyDeleteI agree that in "On Living" written by Nazim Hikmet, that he does communicates the message of this poem in a very effective way. The message, that I believe, is that everyone no matter what should live life to the fullest and act as we will never die. The poet tries to explain this by using similes and other devices, while also sayings things such as how people should act and what they should to, if they're going to say 'I lived'. For example, In first stanza, the poet says that "you must live with great seriousness, like a squirrel" and "you must take living so seriously that even at seventy, for example, you'll plant olive trees-- and not for your children, either,...because living, I mean, weighs heavier." he uses these to say that we should act like a squirrel(s),(as they have excellent eye sight so much so it holds every moment it captures) and that with every moment that passes we should use that as a guide for not just ourselves but also for our children to better them selves, learn from their mistakes and not take life for granted cause if we dont those mistakes could come back and hunt us later.

Money Musk written by Jordan Smith uses imagery to communicate his message. The message Smith is trying to convey is, to always value the past because it don't last forever. Smith states, " The frame around this mirror, and the silver /Gone too, the only reflection as faint"(). The reader is able to create an image of an a frame losing color. However, the reflection is still there. The reflection is the past memories. Trying to play his grandmother mandolin, " Of playing half-badly on an antique instrument/Trying to catch a tune you'd long ago"(). The sound of the madolin used to be memoriable. Overtime, the mandolin became older and he can't seem to get the tune from before. The message conveyed is memories should be kept. As time pass the world changes and won't be the same like before. -Teresa S
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jomi that the message of the poem is life should be lived to the fullest. The poet uses similes and metaphors to make comparisons in the poem. For example, "But because although you fear death you don’t believe it,because living, I mean, weighs heavier". Many are scared of death and doesn't want death to come. Though life is heavier and weighs more. Life is important and should be lived to an extent. - Teresa S
ReplyDeleteIn the poem "on living" Nazim Hikmet communicates the message of the poem in a effective way. He does this so the reader will really think and understand what hes putting in the text. The message is that you should take life seriously. In the first line Nazim states "living is no laughing matter". In the first line the author uses tone to convey the message in the poem. The way he says it makes it serious so we won't take living as a joke. Line 5 of the poem states "I mean living must be your whole occupation". Once again tone is being used to convey his message. When you have a job, you spend most of your time there and you put alot of you into it so Nazim is saying living is something you must invest your time and strength in. The tone aids in conveying the message that you must take life seriously.
